Candidate Communication History: ATS and Engage

BrightMove keeps your candidate communication history in sync across both the ATS and Engage. So no matter which platform you're working in, you're never missing context on where a conversation stands.

Seeing Engage Conversations in the ATS

When an Engage conversation is started for a candidate, a corresponding activity row appears on that candidate's ATS profile under the Activity Tab. This gives recruiters and super users working in the ATS real-time visibility into active and past Engage SMS threads without leaving the ATS.

What the activity row shows:

  • The conversation start date and time

  • The conversation type (Engage Conversation)

  • The job the conversation is linked to

  • The user the conversation is assigned to (who started the conversation)

  • A live-updating preview of the most recent message

Clicking the row opens a modal with the full scrollable conversation thread. If the conversation is still active, the modal reflects its live state. This view is read-only. You cannot send messages or take action from within the ATS modal. To respond, navigate to Engage.

Viewing the Full Candidate Timeline in the ATS

For a chronological view of all interactions with a candidate across both the ATS and Engage, navigate to the candidate's ATS profile and click the Timeline button in the top right corner (next to the quick action buttons). The Timeline displays a rightside pane with all activity in date order — emails, submittals, status changes, notes, and Engage Conversations — giving you a single view of the candidate's full history.

By default, the Timeline shows ATS activities and Engage Conversations as separate entries. To see them woven together in a single chronological thread, click the Interlace button in the upper right corner of the Timeline. Interlace merges both streams so you can follow the complete story of your interactions with a candidate without toggling between views!

Notification Bell

When a candidate replies via SMS, the ATS notification bell will badge with the unread count. Opening the bell shows a notification card with the message type, candidate name, date, and a message preview. From the notification, you can navigate to Engage to read the full thread and respond. If the conversation is closed, you can click the date on the notification to see the full conversation details.

Seeing ATS History in Engage

When working in an Engage conversation, you can pull up a candidate's ATS history without leaving Engage using the context pane.

To open it, click the Show Chat Details icon in the upper right corner of the conversation. This expands a panel on the right side of the screen with two tabs: Submittals and Jobs.

Under the Submittals tab, click the candidate's name to open their profile. From there, you'll see four tabs:

  • Profile — key candidate details including contact info, location, current company, salary expectation, current title, source, and application status

  • Resume — the candidate's resume on file

  • Notes — any notes logged against this candidate in the ATS

  • Activities — a chronological list of the candidate's ATS activity, including emails, submittals, status changes, and Engage Conversations

The Activities tab is read-only. To take action or make changes, navigate back to the ATS. Any messages you send in the conversation will automatically appear in the candidate's ATS activity timeline.

When a Candidate Replies to a Closed Conversation

If a candidate replies via SMS after a conversation has been closed, BrightMove will automatically receive the message and open a new conversation thread with the original participant list restored. You'll be notified of the inbound reply. No manual setup required.

To help with context, a Prior Conversation badge will appear in the chat header of the new thread. Clicking it opens a modal showing the most recent previous conversation that the candidate had with your Twilio number, so you can pick up where things left off without having to dig through history!
